Yasmine Latkowski is a composer and performer known for her culturally diverse compositions. Inspired by her Arabic dual heritage and the rich musical traditions of the Arab world, her composition work spans global documentaries, immersive theatre, choral and vocal work, TV and film and games.
Yasmine often works on hard-hitting subjects, with media composition credits including BBC Africa Eye, BBC Panorama, the United Nations, independent documentaries and television in the Arab-speaking world, and National Theatre Wales. She has also composed for immersive projects with EA Productions and Creative Wales’ games community.
Highlights include the collaboration with the UNFPA composing a song for women’s rights – ‘Change Will Change Her Life’, a Global Health Film titled ‘Forged in Syria’, directed by Lauren Anders Brown, and a Humanitarian Leadership Academy project called ‘Gender in Conflict’, also directed by Lauren Anders Brown. Directed by Chris Alcock, BBC’s Faith under Fire explored strong emotional subjects of religion, violence and difficult subject matters.
Yasmine’s production music lends itself to working with renowned session players, including Joelle Barker, Tim Garside and the Klezmer band She’Koyokh, alongside vocalist Mared Williams. Together, they bring authentic instrumentation and musical traditions from the Arab world, Eastern Europe and Wales to her compositions. Nathan Hilton of West One Music describes her music as “authentic and elevating”.
Yasmine’s impact can be seen across Wales. Her collaboration with Ayoub Boukhalfa on ‘Atamanaa’, meaning ‘I hope’ in Arabic, was arranged as Wales’ first original Arabic-language vocal score and released through Tŷ Cerdd. She has also taken part in Codi Cor, arranging vocal scores in Arabic and Welsh, represented Wales as part of the Cymru delegation at WOMEX, and mentored young musicians through programmes at Wales Millennium Centre. Yasmine has worked with Community Music Wales, leading vocal sessions for refugees and asylum seekers in North Wales, as well as delivering cultural and musical projects in schools for Arts Council Wales.
Through her ensemble Panedeni, Yasmine has received support from Arts Council Wales, Wrexham Council, Race Council Cymru and PRS Foundation to compose original music and showcase Welsh, Moroccan and Yemeni musical traditions in a way that has not been heard before in Wales. Through collaboration, performance and storytelling, Panedeni brings these traditions together. Their first EP, ‘Atamanaa’, was released in June 2026 through Sionci and Tŷ Cerdd, with performances at Focus Wales, the International Eisteddfod and Llangollen Fringe, alongside radio support from BBC Radio Wales, Radio Cymru and Resonance FM.
